Food Club

A flagship offering, the Food Club provides members with a unique shopping experience for healthy and affordable groceries. For a monthly fee of $12 to $19, members receive points to shop for food, with healthier options costing fewer points. This innovative approach promotes nutritious choices and allows members to maintain their dignity while shopping, empowering them to make informed decisions about their meals and health.

Opportunity Hub

The Opportunity Hub offers essential services aimed at improving health, financial stability, and social connections. Regular cooking classes help participants enhance cooking skills and teach them how to prepare healthy meals. The Opportunity Hub also offers financial wellness programs to help community members navigate available resources–allowing them to achieve independence.

Community Kitchen

Food security is just one aspect of well-being. Community Action House operates a community kitchen at Western Theological Seminary that serves hot meals daily, with lunch provided Monday through Friday and breakfast on weekends. This initiative addresses immediate nutritional needs while fostering a sense of community and belonging among participants.

Outreach Team

The Outreach team actively engages with individuals experiencing homelessness, collaborating with local organizations to address their multifaceted challenges. A notable partnership with First United Methodist Church offers crucial services through their Refresh Program–like showers, haircuts, mail services, and secure storage–at no cost. The team also provides case management and resource navigation assistance at Herrick Library, ensuring individuals can access the support they need.

Financial Wellness

Community Action House offers free courses, services, and counseling designed to empower individuals to take control of their financial futures. Topics include home buying education, financial capability, and foreclosure intervention. By inviting community experts to speak during these courses, the organization enriches the learning experience and fosters a supportive environment for financial growth.

VITA Services

During tax season, Community Action House serves as a VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) site, providing free tax preparation services to individuals with low income, people with disabilities, and those with limited English proficiency. This helps clients maximize their tax returns and achieve financial stability.

Community Action House is more than just a service provider; it is a beacon of hope and empowerment in our community, offering essential support to those who are struggling. By addressing immediate needs and fostering long-term stability, Community Action House helps individuals transform their lives and build a brighter future.
