Start Here: Caregiver Support Groups
Empowering Caregivers Through Community and Connection

A caregiver support group is a space where peers come together to discuss providing quality care for their loved ones while receiving education and emotional support. Whether you’re caring for a spouse with a chronic illness, a child supporting their parents, or a close friend, you may identify as a care partner. And care partners are always welcome here at Evergreen Commons!Â
Caring for someone often takes an emotional and physical toll. A support group can be a safe space for care partners to come and not only receive practical advice on the logistics that come with caregiving, but also feel encouraged by others who get the unique challenges that this kind of support for our loved ones entails.
The Benefits of Caregiver Support GroupsÂ
Community and Emotional SupportÂ
One of the most significant advantages of caregiver support groups is the emotional support they provide. These groups are safe spaces for care partners to share their experiences, vent frustrations, discuss fears about the future, and celebrate moments of success. Connecting with peers facing similar challenges can reduce feelings of loneliness and help prevent the isolation many care partner’s experience.Â
Practical Advice and ResourcesÂ
Support groups not only address emotional challenges but also serve as valuable resources for practical advice. Care partners can learn from each other’s experiences in managing caregiving tasks—like caring for medical issues, navigating the healthcare system, and addressing financial questions. Resource Center facilitators are also there to guide participants to tangible resources and services to help them along their caregiving journey.
Building Resilience and PerseveranceÂ
Caregiving presents unique challenges that can be hard to accept. Attending a support group allows care partners to recognize their own strength and resilience. Hearing stories from others who have successfully navigated similar experiences helps create feelings of hope, motivation, and resilience.
